The Soros Foundation, in collaboration with the Centre for Development and Democratization of the Institutions (QZHDI) has organized a round table for some amendments in the law regarding the right for information. The round table is a part of the project “Transparency enhancement” realized from the Network of the Open Society for Albania (NOSA).
From eight years now Albania has its own law – 8503 – regarding the right for information, but its implementation is far from perfect. All indices, such as the volume of request for information and the information offered, the active spreading of information related to public policies and the role of the information system generally in the development of a democratic society – in all this fields, our country is demonstrating a lower standard versus those achieved from European countries, a standard under the medium average of the Balkan region as well.
These preoccupations are increasing due to some deficits and lacks in the legal acts regarding the right for information – those acts are not modified since 1999. Based on these problems, OSFA and QZHDI proposed an amendment of the law regarding the right for information, an amendment necessary for the government, for the judicial power, for the mass media and the civil society.
