The free opinion forum, supported from “Soros” foundation and AMC, organized on March 28th a National Conference against the blood feud in our country, on the theme: “Together against the blood feud”.

During the conference the Committee for National Reconciliation submitted problematic data regarding blood feud. According to this committee, in Albania there are 1376 families affected from this phenomenon, in 23 districts, separated in 746 villages and 17 cities. The total number of affected children is 711 (aged from 1 to 18 years).
The participants in the conference considered the actual law and a declarative law more than an acting one. They also noted that the Coordinative Council, composed from main state figures, has met only once, having yet no secretariat at all. Aiming at the improvement of the situation, the organizers have compiled and proposed for a parliamentary debating a new draft of law: “The organization and functioning of a committee for the prevention and combating of the blood feud”. They recommend the creation of a stable central structure, supported from other structures in districts’ level. That structure should take the responsibility for the designing of a long-term strategy, aiming at the combating of blood feud, and for its prevention in the future.
