The mayor of Tirana, Mr. Edi Rama, has presented the project "The Municipality of Tirana toward European standards", that foresees structural changes, higher transparency in local governing and involvement of citizens in decision-taking processes.

Although the municipality of the capital has been considered the best model of a local governing during last years, new problems related to development require a more thorough reform, guaranteeing new standards, more qualified services for the citizens and their involvement in the decision-taking process.

The implementation of the new project creates new structures at the direction of the municipality, among whom will be a directory of strategic planification, a directory of the middle-term budgeting and a sector of coordination with donors, fundraising thus from foreign sources. The enhancement of the management capacity of the municipality will create the new structure of the municipality administrator, whereas a higher involvement of the citizens in decision-taking will be realized through the special civil board.

The initiation of project implementation will enhance the efficiency of the elected and appointed persons, whereas at a larger scale, will increase awareness of the citizens for the public problems, will promote volunteerism and will educate children with the community feeling.
