Albanian and foreign experts gave their contribution in a round table held on discussing the draft-law "On Legal Aid”, pursuant to a project of the Free Legal Service (TLAS) supported by the Open Society Foundation for Albania, Soros, the US Embassy in Tirana and the Swedish and Helsinki Committees.
The free legal aid in Albania has started operation in 1997 coming to the assistance of all the people in need, war veterans, the disabled and all the ones that have no possibilities to pay for the various justice system chains' services. The draft-law “On Legal Aid” is drafted taking into account the ten-year long practice, laws approved so far, a special UNICEF report and the Council of Europe recommendations.
The discussion of this draft-law shall be continued with the interest groups, the non-profit organizations operational in the field of human rights, experts and senior officials from the Ministry of Justice, the National Bar Association, all the parliamentary groups, while the final destination shall be its approval by the Assembly.
