Based almost wholly in the country’s water sources,
the Albanian energy sector faces today the challenge to diversify
sources of energy production in the country.
Co-Plan has committed itself to drafting and implementing
the project: “Sustainable energies for Albania”.
The initiative was announced in a round table held on 7 September
at the Rogner Hotel. The discussions centered on the topic
“Can Albania avail itself of the latest technology developments?”
The round table laid emphasis on the challenge as a way to
stimulate concerted action and cooperation by responsible
institutions and sectors. The round table was attended by
experts of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy; the
Ministry of Environment, Forests and Water Management; the
National Energy Agency; the research institutions in the country,
the Polytechnic University, etc.
The topics for discussion included:
- The need to explore possibilities of decentralizing energy
production based on the latest technologies;
- The significance of renewable sources of energy (including
water) as long-term alternatives for the future;
- Identification of projects to be carried out in the context
of larger European ventures.
