The monitoring of election campaigns is considered by NOSA
to be an important process for the education of the electors
and the increase of responsibility, accountability and accountancy
of the elected. Under NOSA, MJAFT proposed to closely follow
the electoral platforms and the implementation of election
promises in the last general elections. The results of the
monitoring are published and updated on www.unevotoj.com.
Through the information provided, MJAFT aims to educate and
build the awareness of Albanian citizens on the workings of
Albania’s Assembly. Other incremental effects of the
project are the improvement of the image of Albania’s
Assembly in the eyes of the public and increase of civic participation
in public policy and decision making.
In the first months of the implementation of the project
important information was gathered concerning the election
platforms of the main parties, the election promises of the
candidates for deputies, their curriculum vitas, political
party finances, etc. The project was very enlightening to
the public and was especially valuable to the media which
disseminated the information widely across the whole population
groups.
Presently the web site has been transformed into a data base
which collects information on the work of Albanian deputies
in the Assembly of Albania. It functions as a data base providing
information on the activity of members of the Albanian Parliament
in three basic categories: biographic information, finances
and parliamentary activity. At the end of every parliamentary
session, unevotoj.com publishes a detailed report.
Over this year, an extension to the website is being constructed
to cover local elections and afterwards the work of the local
government. The construction will be finalized soon. In the
meantime 12 local reporters have been recruited and are now
collecting information on the 12 municipalities of Durres,
Tirana, Shkodra, Korca, Kukesi, Berati, Gjirokastra, Elbasani,
Peshkopia, Fieri, Vlora and Lezha.
