Historical turns and the return of memory

16 September 2006

The Institute of Public Dialogue and Communication, the Albanian Media Institute and the Center for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona, supported by the Soros Foundation and the Spanish Embassy, held on 16 September the discussion: Historical turns and the return of memory. The central theme of the discussion centered on the experiences of and challenges faced by post traumatic societies in the modern era. The event was attended by Joseph Ramoneda, Prof. Paul Garde, Kepa Aulestia, Veton Surroi, etc. Discussions were moderated by Piro Misha, Remzi Lani, and Bashkim Shehu. The varying opinions expressed by various speakers converged on the issues of possibility/impossibility of historical oblivion, the interplay of the whole host of historical truths, the role of collective memory and its constant modification, the possibility of collective clemency, the process of catharsis and mea culpa.

The participants in the debate represented the political, academic and media circles.
